Bench me

I’m grateful to be benched.

I’ve been cast in two short plays that will be in the line up for The 06 Ensemble’s Bench Project II! I’m not sure how I managed that but I won’t question the good fortune!

Teaser poster. Designed by yours truly.

You might be asking yourself, “Bench Projects…that sounds familiar…where have I heard it before?”. It’s because you have- and probably on my blog! A few months ago, I was involved with the first Bench Projects; Wearing different hats, I acted in one piece and directed another one. This time around, I’m acting in two pieces.

We had our first read through x company meeting last night and it was delightful! If it wasn’t already clear from the beginning that this was a ridiculously talented group of artists, it was crystal by night’s end. Look at this line up for Playwrights:

GEEZ! Fire!

Another factor that sparked a great deal of excitement with me is the chance to work with friends I’ve worked with before, like Cara Phipps, Sara Luna, Julie Kawabara and Jonathan Amores– then there are friends who I will be working with for the first time, like Gina Marie Hayes and Kate McGrath! To top it off, I’m stoked that I’m going to get a chance to get to know some new people who are ecstatic to be a part of this project.

If you recall, Bench Project I’s price of admission was a donation of a children’s book. This go around, if you want to see the show, the donation price is a warm sweater! The sweaters will then be donated to Sacred Hearts Non-Profit Organization.

The 06 Ensemble brought snacks to make sure the night started off on the right foot. Food always guarantees one of two things (or both): 1) Right foot and 2) Food coma.

After the standard meeting and greetings, speeches and what-do’s, we got right into it.

I was impressed by how well all the pieces worked together to create this sense of hope (if a bit quirky) by the end of the night. We broke up into our respective Director-Actor-Playwright teams and went over details like, initial thoughts and reactions, rehearsals, and general mind meanderings.

Day 1 down. –What’s next? Well, for me, I’m gonna bunk in and start on my line memorizing! My next update will probably be when rehearsal starts. But if you want to keep up with what’s going on with the project as a whole, be sure to visit and LIKE The 06 Ensemble’s Facebook Page and visit their Twitter at: Follow @06ensemble
